I almost don't know what to do with myself! Today was the last day of school for our school year. I ignored the uncorrected school work and the books I need to add to my Book List of the children's reading for the year. I also ignored the report card grades I have not yet begun compiling. I paid my full attention to 5 hours of Pride and Prejudice on DVD and I reveled in it. That was a nice way to balance some of the stress from the last weeks.
There will be time next week for book lists and grades and preparing portfolios. For today, my time was my own.
Some more of what I did in that time is reflect on a TV show I enjoy. So, You Think You Can Dance generally holds my interest. This year's cast has been fun to watch so far, and I'm looking forward to more.
But I do have a complaint. And for me it is a serious one. I absolutely hate it when I'm watching a particularly enchanting number and the camera angle tilts so the dance floor is at a 45 degree angle. I have to shut my eyes. Perhaps I'm too heavily invested in the dancers' movement, and I feel the floor slipping out from under myself. It is so unnerving I was close to turning off the tv on Wednesday.
The show self-proclaims to be bringing dance into millions of living rooms where it would not have been otherwise. I'm sure that is true. But I wonder if viewers would enjoy it more if the cameras would stop spinning the picture so people could see the dance rather than just the spectacle.
I don't mind walking out of the room while the musical guest is performing during the results show. Rather, that is a pleasure. But please don't make me leave the dancing!

New Adventures
Our trip the Grand Bahama Island held exciting new adventures for everyone in our family.
The Ocean -- the kids have seen the Atlantic and the Pacific before. But never before have they been able to swim in the ocean.
Previous visits to the sea were in 40 or 60 degree weather, so we were all decked out in long pants and jackets. They loved it! The Artist spent most of her time looking for shells. She found so many, pity we could not bring them home. The Engineer relished the warm water and enjoyed jumping into and over breaking waves. The beach was beautiful! It was large, clean and not crowded. 
The resort had a game room which provided the Engineer with entertainment and excitement. He was able to play real ping pong and real billiards for the first time. He found them both very different from the Wii.
It was also a bit exciting to ride in cabs with the drivers seat on the right side, and careen along curving roadways, always in the leftmost lane . My driving habits are so ingrained, I don't think I'd dare rent a car and drive myself around the island.

School Wind Down
The school year may be winding down, but summer activities are gearing up. I'm so close to the end of the year that I can see the more relaxed schedule coming my way, but I can't enjoy it quite yet. Science, grammar, Latin and math stand between the Artist and her summer. The Engineer has some math and reading yet to complete.
This summer we have lots of plans. Swim lessons will begin some time soon I hope (waiting on the pool folks to call me back). This is always a child favorite.
The Engineer is looking forward to playing T ball. Earlier this spring when we had a few warm days he was able to practice some. I do hope it warms up again soon.
The Artist will be participating in a reading mentoring program at the library. This weekend at the mentor orientation we should learn more about it. I think she will enjoy reading to younger children, especially younger children who are not her brother!
Over the summer the family will keep up with piano lessons, our German program, and the Artist will have a typing course. Knowing the two of them, they will spend the rest of their time reading and bike riding (for her) or playing basketball and riding scooter (for him).
