Waiting for the show.For the last several years our home school group has taken in a puppet show at Weathervane, a local community theatre, every spring. This year was the first time my children and I were able to attend.
National touring company, The Melikin Puppets, presented Shoes and Ships and Sealing Wax, featuring The Pied Piper of Hamelin. The theme of the show was poetry. The cast assembled a collection of poems the children would already be familiar with or could easily relate to through the puppets.
The show opened with some nursery rhymes and continued with a wonderful presentation of the Pied Piper story (Robert Browning). Next, The Raven (Edgar Allen Poe) was made a lot less scary. Casey at the Bat (Ernest Thayer) followed and the show was concluded with a poem called "Thank You" by one of the puppet characters.
After the show, one of the puppets came out to the lobby to greet his adoring fans.
